Catapult has committed to helping the BNZ Crusaders stay at the top of their game, signing on as the Official Performance Partner of the team in 2018.

The BNZ Crusaders have used Catapult technology for the past six years. A world leader in sports performance analytics, Catapult wearable technology allows teams to quantify how hard players are working during games and trainings, providing a number of key performance metrics including speed, distance, heart rate, changes of direction, accelerations, decelerations, and jumps.

As well as tracking athlete performance, the GPS system can be used to mitigate injury risk, quantify readiness for competition, and provide objective data around return to play from injury.

BNZ Crusaders CEO, Hamish Riach, said the partnership is an extension of the organisation’s existing relationship with Catapult, formalising their joint commitment to high performance sport, innovation and technology.

"We are thrilled to have Catapult on board as our Official Performance Partner. They are leading the way with their sports technology, which has been adopted by a variety of elite sporting bodies worldwide. The BNZ Crusaders are proud to be the first Super Rugby team to partner with Catapult, expanding on our existing implementation of the technology."

BNZ Crusaders and Catapult are also teaming up to provide wearable technology to the Crusaders Academy. PlayerTek by Catapult is a GPS player tracking system that will allow teams to be able to directly compare the physical performance of their players, with the Crusaders. In 2018, the Crusaders Academy will implement this technology to track progress and player development, which Catapult Business Development Manager, Mat Young, said is a fantastic opportunity for the company to assist in the growth of young rugby players.

"We are delighted to expand our partnership with the Crusaders," Young said.

"The elite team are currently using our OptimEye S5 technology to help reduce their risk of injury and improve performance, and we’re really excited to be able to offer our new PlayerTek product to their Academy - helping to provide these young players with key insight along their development pathway."
