Eat My Lunch reaches millionth milestone with the help of ClearPoint

One million lunches have been delivered to kids in need with the help of ClearPoint

New Zealand social enterprise, Eat My Lunch is celebrating the delivery of one million lunches to kids who would otherwise go hungry at lunchtime.

Achieved in just over three years, the ‘buy one, give one’ model has reached this significant milestone much earlier than predicted, helped in no small part by Eat My Lunch’s technology partner, ClearPoint.

"Very early on we felt like we were in an IT desert", says Lisa King, CEO and Founder Eat My Lunch.

"We had hit our three-year forecast in three months, as more and more orders were coming in our online system was struggling and it was clear that what we had wouldn’t manage the scale of the business moving forward, nor allow us to change and flex our business model."

At the same time ClearPoint had heard of the social business, team members had been ordering the lunches and Bain Hollister, Chief Technical Officer at ClearPoint decided to approach Eat My Lunch and see if they could help.

"ClearPoint has always been a strong values-based business", says Hollister. "We have a real desire to make a contribution and part of our greater vision is to be able to help improve people’s lives and the environment through technology".

There was a clear alignment between Eat My Lunch and ClearPoint in regard to needs, services and values. ClearPoint quickly got to work designing and building a solution to support Eat My Lunch’s blistering growth.

According to King the partnership with ClearPoint is a great example of the modern approach to corporate social responsibility

"We have been incredibly lucky to have attracted likeminded individuals and businesses, who believe in our vision and support us in our endeavors.

"ClearPoint is a technology company with a global client list of blue chip companies however they came to us with a desire to create a genuine partnership and engage locally. Their input has been much more than delivering e-commerce solutions and offering ongoing technology support. The whole company has engaged with us through volunteer work, regularly ordering lunches in the office, catering for client meetings as well as ordering the EML special lunch box for company Christmas lunches," says King.

ClearPoint used its cutting edge digital skills to port Eat My Lunch’s existing system into Amazon AWS. From there ClearPoint designed a new online solution enabling Eat My Lunch to manage their own content, products, pricing, subscription management and payments. Based on a leading open source ecommerce suite WooCommerce (, ClearPoint integrated this solution with a payment gateway route, optimization and field services experts vWork ( ClearPoint designed and built a kitchen management solution and automated a number of processes enabling Eat My Lunch to scale operations and self-manage their systems.

"Our orders have grown from 500 lunches per day to more than 2,000. Being able to manage this logistically as well as add further product lines such as dinners, catering and dietary requirements would not have been possible with the technology support from ClearPoint, they really have been our virtual CTO," says King.

Today ClearPoint continues to be the technology partner for Eat My Lunch, providing strategic technology guidance, as well as the supply of infrastructure and hardware and website support.
