Chorus has today announced it has achieved Rainbow Tick certification.

The Rainbow Tick programme is about ensuring organisations are safe and welcoming for all employees, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity.

Chorus kicked off the Rainbow Tick process 15 months ago as part of a range of initiatives to highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion within the business.

Julie Watson, Programme Manager for the Rainbow Tick says what she really noticed about Chorus was the level of support for the Rainbow Community running throughout the company.

She says: "Chorus demonstrates a very inclusive and caring attitude to all employees, including those who identify as Rainbow. They make sure that it is included in all the relevant policies and reporting. Chorus’ outreach to Rainbow Communities is very visible."

Vanessa Oakley, Chorus’ general manager for strategy and business operations has championed the Chorus Rainbow Network which consists of over 30 staff members and has allies at every level of the organisation.

"We are delighted to have been awarded the Rainbow Tick and couldn’t have done it without the commitment and dedication of our people who truly believe in the importance of being able to bring their true selves to work," she says.

Chorus has previously demonstrated its commitment to the Rainbow Community through supporting the inaugural New Zealand LGBTI Awards last year, raising money and awareness on World AIDS Day, sponsoring the television series ‘House of Drag’, championing Pride through its nationwide cabinet art programme and participating in the Wellington Pride Parade taking place tomorrow.

"I’m incredibly proud to be a part of a company where authenticity is one of our overarching values and the Rainbow Tick is symbolic of that. We’ll continue to champion diversity and inclusion both internally and externally," says Oakley.
