Appleby Farms’ new Salted Caramel ice cream has left the farmgate and hit the supermarket shelves just in time for summer - and it looks set to be a favourite.

Created by Appleby Farms co-founder and ice cream maker Kristy Giles, the handcrafted Salted Caramel ice cream is made from Appleby Farms’ signature A2 protein milk and cream from the company’s own Nelson farms and laced with caramel ripple and pieces of caramel toffee containing sun-dried sea salt.

Already a favourite with regulars at the Appleby Farms Airstream, the company’s ice cream caravan that can be found parked up at local hot spots such as Tahunanui Beach in Nelson, Ms Giles says it was time to share the "exquisite flavour" with the rest of New Zealand.

"As with all our ice creams, Salted Caramel carries the Appleby Farms’ mark of a bold flavour, creamy texture and rich mouthfeel. But it’s set to be a real favourite - a perfect balance of sweet and salty."

Salted Caramel has also proved popular with judges, scooping a silver medal at last month’s New Zealand Ice Cream Awards, alongside Appleby’s other award-winning flavours, Ginger Biscuit (Gold), Pic’s Peanut Butter (Silver) and Coffee (Silver).

To share the full Appleby Farms’ ice cream range with Kiwis around the country, the Appleby Farms Igloo is kicking off a nationwide tour and will be found at popular holiday spots and events around the country, including this week’s Carols in the Park at Mairangi Bay and the Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park at Auckland Domain.

Appleby Farms co-founder and dairy farmer Murray King says the company has gone from strength to strength since producing its first batch of ice cream in December 2017.

"So much love goes into our product - from the care we take with our A2 cows to handcrafting the ice cream at our creamery in Stoke. We’re extremely proud of the products we make and excited to be sharing this latest offering with New Zealand just in time for summer."

Appleby Farms is stocked in more than 170 supermarkets nationwide.
