A Central Otago building company renowned for many award-winning homes has struck gold again with two top awards lining it up for national honours.

Renowned for consistent standards in workmanship, finishing, use of sustainable products and the ultimate pride in the job, AJ Saville Builder Ltd has demonstrated once again why the company is one of the top construction companies in New Zealand.

At the Southern Region House of the Year competition, a renovation project in the Over $500,000 category won the Supreme Award for renovation of the year, while another new home build in the $1m to $2m category took home a coveted Gold Award.

Arrowtown-based owner and founder Allister Saville said he was "proud as punch" to have taken home the awards on behalf of the company’s 30-strong team, sub-contractors and suppliers.

"The private home we built at Millbrook Country Club and entered for this award is the 50th we’ve built at the resort in over 14 years," he said.

"We’re thrilled with it and so are the owners, who are also really rapt for the staff who worked on the house to get this level of recognition."

The magnificent three-bed, four-bath Millbrook residence is a private home build. It’s designed to enjoy world-class views and boasts a high degree of insulation, the latest-technology heating and cooling systems, and plenty of space for entertaining in interconnecting buildings with more than one outdoor space offering a new perspective on idyllic views.

The Dalefield renovation, completed for a repeat client within a tight timeframe, was described by judges as an "immaculate" transformation.

"The basic layout is still as it was but has been extended, and original elements are still left, and using lovely materials, fixtures and fittings it was a pleasure to build and see the transformation to give value to an amazing piece of land," he said.

"The owners are stoked and it’s pretty rewarding for us to receive a Supreme award, which is an awesome one to get when they only gave out two in this region."

Steel portals in the home frame enviable views of Coronet Peak and The Remarkables, while a new media room keeps youngsters happy and connects to a new alfresco entertainment area. The owners love their new master bedroom, converted from the former lounge into a modern space complete with stunning ensuite and office.

Over the years AJ Saville has been no stranger to the winners podium - having won the Showhome of the Year award at the Registered Master Builders 2014 House of the Year awards - the seventh national award after making the finals 12 times.

AJ Saville Builder Ltd is among the elite of New Zealand’s building industry -- still the only Platinum registered Otago/Southland builder after being presented with the Platinum Award in 2012, reserved for those who’ve won five or more national awards.

Allister Saville said each and every win continued to inspire him and his team.

"This never gets boring, especially when there’s new and better products coming onto the market all the time that’s sustainable and opens up a new door again. We work hard to keep the same core team of subbies and cherish the fact that they know what we expect of them and we’re open to the new ideas they bring on board too."

National finalists in the Registered Master Builders House of the Year competition will be decided once all regional competitions are judged. The best of the best will receive Gold Reserve Status which will then be judged by a new national judging panel to determine overall winners in each category. Those winners will be announced in Auckland in November.
