Previous winners of the Electra Business Awards for Kapiti and Horowhenua are to share their knowledge and experiences with people considering entering this year.

Two information evenings will be held this month, in Levin on Wednesday 12th May and in Paraparaumu on Tuesday 25th May. Both will run for an hour from 5.30pm and be held in the BNZ premises. They are free to attend but to allow for catering interested participants need to register at www.electra.co.nz/businessawards

Sheils Carnihan, Owner/Manager of NumberWorks'nWords Kapiti, winner of the Staff Development and the Emerging Business of the Year categories in 2009 said that entering into the Awards "meant that I had to really think about what I was doing and why - this was really good for me as it made me step back and see my business differently. It wasn't arduous at all because of the benefits in completing each section. I enjoyed the Assessors visit - it went very smoothly as they had done their homework before coming into the business and it was a focused meeting."

Andy Prow, Managing Director of Aura Software Security Ltd, winner of the New Thinking category 2009 said "We actually put down on paper thoughts and ideas that have always been in our head, particularly around the vision and future of the company. It was also an excellent opportunity to document and review our working practices and process. The most gain from winning the award was the energy boost and pride it gave the staff and the organisation. From a sales and marketing perspective winning the award also helped to reinforce our brand as "leaders in our field".

Awards organiser Business Kapiti Horowhenua often quotes previous winners as saying that they found the entry process most revealing and one of the most beneficial aspects of their participation in the awards.

Also speaking at these events will be Entry Coordinator, Jeff Smith of Boost Business, who is provided free of charge to help businesses through the entry process.

Given that these awards have been held over the past 14 years, there is now a body of knowledge and experience in the community and previous winners are willing to share this.
