Bayfair Shopping Centre Hosts Sustainable Information Expo

The green knowledge wave is gathering force as a new Sustainable Information Expo makes its debut from 26 to 28 March at Bayfair Shopping Centre. The exhibition will showcase a wide variety of practical ways in which Kiwi householders can help the environment and conserve some cash.

The Sustainable Information Expo will present a raft of community and organizational support services dedicated to making everyday activities more sustainable, with expo attendees able to garner tips on how to increase the ‘green’ factor in all manner of tasks, from home renovation projects to their daily work commute.

Bayfair Centre Manager Andrew Wadsworth says he expects the outstanding illustrations of how the beauty of the Bay of Plenty region can be preserved to be among the hot favourites of the expo’s displays. “There will be all manner of features to capture imaginations, fascinate and inform people. Visitors will even have the opportunity to see exactly how recycled rubbish is processed, and what the alternatives do to our planet.

“Within the broad range of participants and displays, we have one goal in hosting this event – if we all learn how to do one additional thing to become more sustainable, no matter how small it may seem, the collective might of each individual will add up to something substantial.”

Bayfair's Sustainable Information Expo is proudly supported by a diverse range of local organizations and businesses: Tauranga City Council, Tauranga Environment Centre, NZ Police, Beca, Sustainable Business Network, Zero Waste Education, Paper4Trees, Waste Watchers, Sport Bay of Plenty and Waste Management Services.

Proposed activities such as exciting interactive displays, top tips for reducing household bills and a sustainable information quiz aim to please. Prizes on offer include a grand prize of $500 Bayfair gift vouchers along with a computer package to the value of $2,500 donated by Beca, which will be presented to a local school of the winner's choosing. Also up for grabs is a year-long recycling contract supplied by Waste Management Services.

The three-day event concludes on 28March, in time to celebrate the globally-recognized Earth Hour, when people in cities across the world will unite in switching off lights for an hour to ‘vote Earth’. In New Zealand, Earth Hour will take place from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. Tauranga is one of many New Zealand cities signed up, with close to 400 cities enlisted across five continents.
