Buddle Findlay Wins International Trademark Award

Buddle Findlay has been acknowledged as the top New Zealand trade mark firm by Asia IP Magazine. The win was based on the votes by more than 3000 in-house legal counsel worldwide and was announced in conjunction with an Asia Pacific anti-counterfeiting conference held over Labour weekend in Hong Kong.

Five New Zealand firms were nominated for the magazine's 2010 New Zealand Trade Mark Award, the others all being patent attorney firms. John Glengarry, who heads Buddle Findlay's Trademarks team, says the purpose of the advanced-level Hong Kong conference was to help facilitate a more co-ordinated approach between public and private sectors to control counterfeiting problems throughout the Asia Pacific region.

"It covered a wide range of issues including new trends in online counterfeiting and the latest regional and international legislative and policy changes, many of which are highly relevant to New Zealand businesses wanting to protect the value of their products and services in the face of a rapidly changing global environment."

Buddle Findlay has a well established reputation internationally. In July this year the head of the firm's tax practice, Neil Russ, was elected New Zealand's Jurisdictional Council Member for the Tokyo- based Inter-Pacific Bar Association.
