The launch of the Christchurch version of www.GrabOne.co.nz yesterday saw 5,000 Cantabrians purchase movie tickets at prices not seen since the early 80’s and saving over $61,000 in the process.

To mark the launch, the popular new website offered purchasers the cheapest movie tickets in over 25 years with a $4 ticket to any Reading Cinemas movie at The Palms Christchurch.

Shane Bradley founder of GrabOne says not only are the “punters wrapped” - as emails of praise are flooding in but they have taken calls from over 30 local businesses wanting to offer a deal on the site.

“We are thrilled with the first day and committed to continuing to offer great deals. The overwhelming response is a sure sign that Kiwis love huge genuine savings. Our original target of 500 tickets certainly went well beyond our expectations,”

GrabOne is a deal-a-day website offering services such as entertainment, beauty therapy, restaurants, bars, and experiences at hugely reduced discounts of up to 90%, through the power of collective purchasing.

Each deal will be made available to the public for 24 hours and in order for the deal to activate at the discounted price a minimum number of people must confirm their willingness to buy. Once the deal has activated the transaction is processed and a downloadable coupon is emailed to the member.

In the four weeks since its launch in Auckland, GrabOne brought a total saving of over $1.35million to tens of thousands of customers or “grabbies” as they’re affectionately known; letting them swim with dolphins, sit down to a screening of the newest films and even walk on the outside ledge of the Sky Tower high above Auckland CBD all at a hugely discounted price.

Over the four weeks on GrabOne, 10,000 $4 movie tickets were snapped up in a matter of hours saving $115,000; some 6,830 hungry kiwis saved $20,000 on premium Giapo Genuine Italian Gelato and Fullers Ferry’s gave 69% savings as 7,465 people grabbed $10 return tickets to beautiful Waiheke Island.
