Daihatsu Japan yesterday announced a worldwide recall of 270,000 vehicles to correct problems with front suspension, a fuel hose and rear 'high stop' brake lights.

Paul Carroll, General Manager of After Sales for Toyota New Zealand - the local distributor for Daihatsu in New Zealand - confirmed today the vehicles in question are not sold in New Zealand.

"The vehicles recalled are the Hijet, Atari, Mira and Move models.

"Of these four models only the Mira was sold new in New Zealand, however, it was discontinued some years ago and any units sold here are not affected," he says.

Carroll says his team is liaising with the New Zealand Transport Agency to confirm if any used imports are in the country.

"If we find any used imports we will contact the owners directly and arrange to have the repairs completed free of charge."

The Daihatsu recall is not linked to the recent Toyota recalls.
