Huntly Miners To Return To Work

Nearly 400 hundred miners at Solid Energy's Huntly East and Rotowaro mines will return to work tomorrow following a vote to accept the company's latest offer.

Miners at Solid Energy's Stockton mine who have been striking in support of their northern counterparts will vote on whether to continue their action at 6pm this evening.

EPMU assistant national secretary Ged O'Connell says the union will now be focusing on finalising the deal.

"It's been a robust series of negotiations but our members have stood strong together around the country and looked out for each other and as a result they have a deal they're happy with.

"Today's vote means the four main sites in the MECA are settled which just leaves a few smaller contractors to finalise the deal with.

"Now that they've got a deal they can accept we're sure our members will be happy to be getting on with the job."

Strike action began on the 29th of October and has been continuous except for one weekend a fortnight ago.
