Love At First Flight

15 May 2009 - Air New Zealand announces world's first Matchmaking Flight

Air New Zealand is helping adventurous American singles to find a date down under on its world-first Matchmaking Flight.

On October 13, 2009, a plane load of passengers will be invited to come on down to New Zealand and get amongst it with single Kiwis. They will depart from Los Angeles, bound for Auckland, on the specially-themed flight, ahead of the dual Hemisphere singles' party of the year - the Great Matchmaking Ball at Auckland's SKYCITY Convention Centre.

"If your dating profile says you enjoy fine wine and long walks on the beach, then New Zealand is your perfect place for romance. Plus our down-to-earth, warm and wonderful people are an added bonus. And let's not forget the splendid Kiwi accentwhat more could an American guy or girl looking for love ask for?" says Steve Bayliss, General Manager Marketing.

Love is bound to be in the air, even before take-off, as Matchmaking Flight passengers enjoy a pre-flight gate party at LAX and then themed food, drink, entertainment and games throughout the flight. Waiting for them at the other end will be a fabulous, singles-only party and accommodation at the five-star SKYCITY Grand Hotel in Auckland, New Zealand.

Tickets will go on sale soon, for Kiwi singles wanting a slice of the action, to the Great Matchmaking Ball to be held on Friday, October 15, at SKYCITY.

Matchmaking Flight ticket holders and partygoers are now invited to upload an online dating profile at, a social environment created for American and New Zealand singles to start connecting before the flight.
