29 May 2009 - PGGW Wrightson and Tasman Velvet Processors Ltd, the joint venture partners in New Zealand Velvet Marketing (NZVM) announced today that they have signed a Statement of Intent with their Suppliers Council and Velexco Co-operative Group Ltd.

The Chairman of NZVM, Bill Thomas, said the Statement of Intent records the commitment of all parties to explore fully the best methods of developing broad-based supplier support for NZVM.

"This is a most welcome development and we are delighted to have reached this agreement as investment by suppliers is critical if we are to achieve the best results for our velvet industry," said Mr Thomas. "This means that NZVM will be owned equally by commercial and producer interests which will allow us to work together to improve returns for the industry."

Ross Chambers, the General Manager of Velexco Co-operative Group Ltd welcoming the agreement said that all parties are committed to uniting velvet producer interests. "By adopting a more unified approach to marketing New Zealand's quality deer velvet to world markets we are confident that we can lift industry profitability through marketing disciplines and cost controls," said Mr Chambers.

"We all recognise that delivering sustainable improvements to the performance of the supply chain for New Zealand deer velvet is a key objective for NZVM," said Mr Thomas.
