NTT Com Global Service To Host Virtual Offices

TOKYO, Mar. 17/Kyodo JBN-AsiaNet/--

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) announced on March 16 that on April 1 it will launch a global hosting service that creates office PC environments which are securely accessible from anywhere using a USB key.

The service, named Virtual Office Hosting, will be provided under NTT Com's BizCITY (R) model for enterprise services that customers access securely from anyplace at anytime.

The new service will enable employees to safely replicate their office computer's desktop environment at home, in a domestic or remote office, or a shared PC in a hotel business center. Users will simply insert a personalized ``MagicConnect'' USB key into their remote PC to access office e-mail and run office applications and groupware on a virtual PC hosted with VMware Infrastructure 3 virtualization technology at NTT Com's robust data center in Hong Kong. All information will be secure because no data will be stored in the remote PC.

Virtual Office Hosting will be available initially in Mainland China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Expansion into other regions is envisioned. Support will be provided in Japanese between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on business days, and in English and Chinese on a 24/7 basis.

Service options will include applications such as Microsoft (R) Office, messaging (mail, scheduler and groupware), antivirus software, data backup and virtual PC management. Service charges excluding tax are as follows:

Options Basic (1) Microsoft Office 2007 Standard (per account) Messaging (per account) Antivirus software (per account) Data backup (per 200 GB) Virtual PC Management (4) (per PC) Hosted Exchanged (2) TeamWorks (3) Sign-up JPY Fee 987,000 JPY 2,200 JPY 2,700 JPY 2,000 JPY 600 JPY 30,000 JPY 200 Monthly JPY Fee 987,000 JPY 2,200 JPY 2,700 JPY 2,000 JPY 600 JPY 30,000 JPY 200

Virtual Office Hosting is expected to help meet growing needs for enterprise employees to have secure access to their office PCs while away from office, including while travelling overseas. The service will also help enterprises to reduce total cost of ownership of their ICT resources, and to secure environments that ensure global business continuity even during emergencies.

``VMware is committed to providing the industry's most comprehensive virtualization platform, offering customers a highly flexible and scalable virtual datacenter operating system (VDC-OS). VMware solutions can be deployed rapidly by service providers such as NTT Communications as the foundation for innovative services. NTT Communications' successful rollout of its new services demonstrates the critical role of VMware's VDC-OS in transforming the datacenter into a cloud environment that addresses customers' stringent demands for flexibility, speed and resiliency in their IT systems. The ability of VMware-based clouds to federate with other cloud environments has the potential to further enhance the flexibility and scalability of these solutions and help service providers deliver maximum performance and cost savings to customers,'' said William Shelton, director, emerging products and solutions, VMware, Inc.

Hiroyuki Tsutsumi, managing director of Cisco Systems G.K., a major supplier of network equipment to NTT Com, says: ``NTT Com's global SaaS hosting platform is highly relevant to today's fast-changing global business because it supports diversified work environments. In partnership with VMware, Cisco Systems is pursuing the virtualization of applications and networks for cloud-computing network services available anytime, anywhere.''
