Following the dramas of late 2010 a group of New Zealand actors felt that there was a need for a new professional body for local performers - one that was proudly New Zealand in nature, and one that was prepared to work within the creative industries to support actors' work and development as arts entrepreneurs. One year later the NZ Actors' Guild is still growing and working for its members and actors New Zealand-wide.

"This year has presented actors with new challenges," says Guild Secretary Greg Ellis. "With a change on the horizon which will allow easier access for overseas performers to our market kiwi actors need to really sing our own praises, work to strengthen our skills and make a strong case that New Zealand is more than just stunning scenery. We need to get ourselves ready to tell everyone that will listen that our creative talent is the equal of anything found elsewhere."

The New Zealand Actors' Guild has established its infrastructure, begun professional development for its members and actors in the wider community and has reached out to fellow professionals in the film, television and theater industries. The Guild's aim for 2012 is to build on these relationships to constructively improve conditions for kiwi performers, and make a compelling case why our talent should be used in our country, on large and small scale productions.
