Opus To Trim UK Operations

18 March 2008 - Yesterday Opus people in the UK were advised of the company's intention to reduce its workforce there of 360 by 75.

In 2008 the UK operation recorded a pre-tax loss of $5.4m.

Opus' Managing Director, Dr Kevin Thompson, said that the reduction is aimed at matching the remaining workforce levels with the available workload in order to address the losses being incurred.

``We are aware of the impact that job losses will have on those of our people affected, and also on their families. We have taken this action after putting significant effort over a number of months into improving revenue generation and diversification of revenue sources in a declining and very tough market'', he said.

``I am sure that the actions we are proposing to take will strengthen our business in the UK to enable it to operate profitably in the current difficult climate, and enable us to benefit from any improvement in market conditions'', Dr Thompson said.

Opus Managers in the UK will be consulting with groups of affected staff over the next three weeks. During the consultation period the company will consider the viability of other options presented by staff.
