Progressive Enterprises Reaches Major Milestone

16 December 2008 - Progressive Enterprises has recently completed a large programme of work to install new ordering, merchandising, point of sale and back office systems. These investments, including store refurbishments, represent a total of more than $NZ280 million over the last three years.

The next stage of this investment is a $NZ200 million building and improvement programme now underway which will see Progressive add at least 3 new stores and refurbish 18-20 supermarkets annually for the next five years. This includes Progressive's plans to invest in supply chain improvements in the coming year.

Having reached a number of milestones, Progressive is conducting a review of some support and project functions at its office in Mangere.

"Our goal is to constantly improve the service and value we offer in our supermarkets. To do this, we are re-engineering our business. With these new systems, we'll be more efficient and that will help us keep grocery prices down for our customers," said Peter Smith, Managing Director.

"If, as a result of this review there is a requirement to change the way Progressive provides some support functions, we would work very closely with any affected staff on redeployment or other career opportunities, both within Progressive and the wider Woolworths Limited Group."

Mr Smith said there have been no offers of redundancy.

"We expect to add significantly to staff in our supermarkets and supply chain to enable us to fully leverage the new systems we now have in place."
