Seminar For Small Block Owners And Horticulture Units In Cromwell

The Otago Regional Council (ORC) is hosting a free seminar on small block farming and the environment at the St John rooms on Barry Avenue in Cromwell early next month.

ORC land resources officer Bruce Monaghan said the seminar is a chance for those with small rural properties to find out about the Council rules which may affect activities on their land.

The evening session will cover a range of topics including resource consents for water, agricultural chemical management and spray drift. In addition the 2009 Pest Management Strategy and outdoor burning responsibilities within the Regional Air Plan will be explained.

ORC's growOTAGO soils and climate information will be on display along with soil information sheets which provide a useful resource for considering alternative land uses. The link between growOTAGO information and the crops for cool climates information set will also be explained.

Mr Monaghan said the seminar, which runs from 7.30 to 9.00pm on Wednesday 4 November, will be followed by a light supper.
