TVNZ Ups The Online Ante
11 December 2008 - TVNZ's presence on the Internet takes a leap forward today with the relaunch and complete redesign of tvnz.co.nz. The heavy dominance of the best News-related material from across New Zealand and around the world puts the website into direct competition with other print media websites, while keeping an extensive entertainment portfolio as a point of difference.

The redesigned website shifts the emphasis towards increased breadth and depth of information-based material, on top of round-the-clock breaking news. TVNZ is aiming to deliver a news service online that is as strong as that already available through News programming on its broadcast channels, TV ONE and TVNZ 7. The move reflects the increasing number of New Zealanders who find their news online. It also reflects a move by broadcasters internationally to redesign news supply so that material is fed to a central team, who in turn deliver it out to online services and mobile platforms as well as TV bulletins.

The relaunched online news service is supported by a 24-hour roster of journalists, keeping the site up-to-date day and night. There will be greater prominence for video content, exclusive blogs, and a place for 'citizen' journalism as well. While the primary focus of the redesigned site is news, there will be a prominently placed section that highlights entertainment and links directly to TVNZ Ondemand, the broadcaster's free full episode catch-up TV service.

TVNZ's Head of Emerging Business, Jason Paris, says TVNZ has plans to release a series of new online services over the coming year that will cement tvnz.co.nz's position as the premier provider of news and entertainment content across all platforms and devices.
