A viewing telescope made possible by a $4,000 grant from the Meridian Te Apiti Community Fund has been installed in Woodville's Vogel St.

The coin-operated telescope will be available for locals and visitors alike, and money raised from its use will be contributed towards community projects and initiatives.

Woodville Rotary spokesman Jim Worboys says it will afford users an excellent view of the Te Apiti wind farm.

"About 7,000 vehicles pass through Woodville every day and the telescope will offer these people the chance to view the wind farm close up."

All up the telescope has cost about $10,000.

It is located on the forecourt of the Lindauer Restaurant in Vogel St.

The chair of the Meridian-Te Apiti Community Fund, Mike Goldsworthy says it is satisfying to see a project supported by the fund become a reality.

"This is exactly the kind of thing the fund was set up for - to support initiatives which provide facilities of lasting value for the local community."
