A 29-year-old man is in Gisborne Hospital's Intensive Care Unit with respiratory problems, possibly suffering from Influenza A (H1N1) or Swine Flu.
The man was admitted to hospital on Friday and is in a stable condition.

Tairawhiti today has had its first confirmed case of Influenza A (H1N1).
The case has occurred in a lady who had recently travelled to Auckland. She had not travelled out of New Zealand.
The woman is suffering mild flu like symptoms and does not require a course of Tamiflu.
12 June 2009 - The Tairawhiti district is today clear of any possible cases and still has not had any confirmed cases of Influenza A (H1N1). From midday today there should also be no-one in isolation or quarantine.

The cumulative total of confirmed cases in New Zealand is now 27, up from 23 yesterday. The cumulative total of probable cases remains at 10.

Doctors are reporting an increase in the number of people presenting at surgeries with influenza symptoms.

9 June 2009 - A group of Gisborne Boy's High School students who travelled home from a school trip to Brisbane on Sunday are in isolation at the school this morning as suspected Influenza A (H1N1) cases.
One Gisborne person who had contact with a probable Influenza A (H1N1) case in another region has been in quarantine here over the weekend but is well and expected to return to normal activities tomorrow.
