Whangarei District Council’s venues and events team is thrilled to announce an exciting line up for the sixth Whangarei Fritter Festival to be held on Saturday 10 March at Toll Stadium.

"New Zealand legends Salmonella Dub will be headlining the festival along with energetic pop powerhouse Elemeno P and five-piece reggae/ ska band Strangely Arousing," said Marketing and Events Manager Rachel O’Gorman.

Salmonella Dub Guitarist Andrew Penman is already fizzing about the event.

"Kia ora Whangarei! We are so honoured to be invited back to your wonderous city. It has been too long between notes. The Fritter Festival is an awesome event and we will be there with bells, whistles and shindigs a blazing," he said.

Elemeno P (formed out of a bunch of friends and housemates in 2003), are similarly enthusiastic. They will be bringing their infectious, free-spirited and honest music to the festival, along with their sing-along party hits ‘Fast Times in Tahoe’, ‘Verona’ and ‘Every Day’s a Saturday’.

Mrs O’Gorman said venues and events would be calling for registrations of interest from restaurants and other fritter aficionados in the next week or so.

"We are planning to match or even surpass our usual totals of 11 vineyards and wineries, 18 or so cafes, restaurants, other fritter friers and a few merchants.

"To be eligible businesses must be a café or restaurant operating in Northland and must agree to the festival terms and conditions. For example, they have to produce a signature fritter to sell to the public at the festival and have enough supplies to last them throughout the day."

Early bird tickets go on sale on Monday 13 November at 9am from Eventfinda and Forum North Box Office for $39 for adults, $20 for children and groups of 10 or more can buy tickets for $35 each. You can also purchase bus tickets for the three bus services that will be provided once again from Matapouri, Mangawhai or Whangarei Heads for $20 return.
