2018 Commonwealth Games weekend highlights - April 14 and 15

It’s the final weekend on the Gold Coast, and we still have lots of Kiwi athletes competing.

New Zealanders are watching and streaming in record numbers, cheering the action on to the finish line. From the Opening Ceremony and across the first eight days of competition, 2,746,800 viewers tuned in to TVNZ 1, DUKE and Games Extra. In the same time period, 1.42 million live streams were recorded, with a total of 32 million viewing minutes.

Weekend highlights


The Black Sticks have made it through to the hockey finals! Both our men and women are guaranteed a medal. However, neither team will be resting on their laurels, they’re going for gold!

The women’s final against Australia gets underway from 2.35pm today, LIVE on TVNZ 1. The men are also playing Australia, and they’ll take to the field this evening from 11.05pm, LIVE on TVNZ 1

Rugby Sevens

The men’s tournament begins today, LIVE on TVNZ Duke from 11am. The Kiwis face Zambia first at 12.37pm, followed by Kenya at 4.17pm. The women’s tournament also continues on DUKE as part of this session. The Black Ferns have their final pool match against Canada at 2.49pm


The Silver Ferns have had a disappointing Commonwealth Games campaign. They’ll be hoping to turn things around in their semi-final match against Australia tonight, LIVE on TVNZ 1 from 7pm.

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony

And just like that, it’s all over! The 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games will culminate this Sunday evening with a Closing Ceremony extravaganza. This event will broadcast on TVNZ 1.
