New Zealand’s Cuisine Good Food Awards, presented by Vittoria Coffee, are set to deliver a few surprises for 2018

The prestigious Cuisine Good Food Awards will showcase a stunning new venue and highlight two additional awards categories, making this highly anticipated event a show-stopper.

Auckland’s historic Civic Theatre will play host to the 14th annual awards on Monday 15 October.

The only nationwide restaurant awards programme of its kind, the Cuisine Good Food Awards recognise and celebrate New Zealand’s very best chefs, restaurateurs and food and drink experiences. Now independently owned, Cuisine magazine’s annual awards are viewed globally as the authority on the dining scene in New Zealand.

Cuisine editor and co-director Kelli Brett says the awards, presented by Vittoria Coffee, are valued immensely by the hospitality industry, as well as food and drink lovers in New Zealand and abroad.

"For one night each year, New Zealand’s hospitality royalty come together to celebrate excellence within the industry - the atmosphere is electric, as the crowd awaits the announcements of our category winners and hatted restaurants." says Kelli.

"These awards are crucial to the development of a national pride in the country’s food story and in claiming a place for New Zealand as a premium food and drink destination."

Categories for Best Long-Term Player and Best New Zealand Dish have been added to the awards this year to acknowledge our industry stalwarts, and the growing trend for dishes with a distinctly New Zealand style and flavour.

The two new awards are among the 14 categories in total, alongside the highly coveted Restaurant of the Year and Chef of the Year awards.

Cuisine magazine enlists more than 40 experts who, over the course of the year, anonymously judge restaurants around the country to determine New Zealand’s top 100 restaurants.

The teams behind those top 100 restaurants will be invited to attend the awards evening where the winning restaurants and chefs will be named and awarded with ‘hats’ (a rating system of 1, 2 or 3).

Kelli says guests should expect significant differences to this year’s awards, not only in terms of the venue and categories, but also the results.

"Changes in restaurant ownership and focus along with the evolution of fine dining will see some very different results to last year.

What remains unchanged is that the results underscore the steady growth of the restaurant industry in New Zealand, and its commitment to be the very best."

"The announcement of our top 100 list is highly anticipated, and none of this would be possible without our partners, Vittoria Coffee, Santa Vittoria, Silere, Estrella Damm, De’Longhi, Ōra King Salmon, Negociants New Zealand, Whitestone Cheese and Pead PR," notes Kelli.

The category awards for 2018 are:

Vittoria Coffee Restaurant of the Year

Best Casual Dining Restaurant

De'Longhi Restaurant Personality of the Year
