Following 10 tough weeks of culinary battles, delectable dishes and disasters in the kitchen, My Kitchen Rules New Zealand has crowned its 2018 champions! Taranaki dad and daughter Liam and Eden have taken out the $100,000 cash prize and the coveted title of MKR NZ victors.

The father daughter duo took on Dunedin-based formidable foodies Jess and Cindy in the Grand Final, in a cook-off that went down to the wire at iconic Auckland restaurant, The French Café. But in the end, Liam and Eden’s near perfect night in the kitchen gave them a final score of 53 out of 60 - just four points ahead of their opposition.

The battling teams put their heart and soul into a four course meal challenge, pulling out all the stops to impress judges Pete Evans and Manu Feildel, who were joined by a special tasting panel made up of some of New Zealand’s top chefs including The French Café’s legendary owner Simon Wright, Nadia Lim, Ray McVinnie and Tom Hishon of Orphans Kitchen.

Liam and Eden’s winning menu started with a Tuna Tataki entrée, followed by Scallops and Scampi and Smoked Beef Fillet. Eden stuck to her guns and produced a Raw Vegan Snicker Slice for dessert, a risk that sadly didn’t quite pay off, and was their only downfall on an otherwise near-faultless night.

Jess and Cindy showed their culinary prowess throughout the cook, producing some stunning dishes. but ultimately, they were let down by their venison main. However, the ladies ended on a high with a faultless Blue Cheese Cheesecake, which left Manu angling for the recipe.

Dad and daughter could not have been happier with the outcome, with Eden saying: "This is going to change my life. I wouldn’t have wanted to do this with anyone else. It’s what I want to do for the rest of my life, and this is validation." Her father Liam said: "I couldn’t be happier, couldn’t be prouder - who would have thought."

After narrowly missing out on the top prize, Cindy said: "I’m still really proud of what we achieved, and what we’ve managed to plate up in the competition."

"We did amazing, regardless of the outcome - we did awesome." said Jess of their loss.
