Stories published on Medium are paid for by readers. But there is no advertising or sponsorship of the kinds endemic in travel writing.

Mary Jane's travel blog is one of the best in New Zealand, perhaps even worldwide.Its costs are all paid for by Mary Jane herself, who retains editorial control and a distinctive voice.

This has been recognised by Medium. Ironically, Kiwis often seem to get more recognition overseas than at home!
