'NZ's greatest reggae musicians at the Big Apple'

Discover Waitomo is about to kick things up a notch by bringing Aotearoa’s biggest reggae names, House of Shem, and Jamey Ferguson, formerly of Katachafire to the Waitomo Homestead this October.

Reggae at The Big Apple is set to be an exclusive night of reggae and roots amongst a picturesque rural countryside garden.

Travis Donoghue, General Manager, Discover Waitomo, says, "We are excited to have House of Shem and Jamey play in our special region. Reggae at the Big Apple will bring a sense of excitement for the locals. Events like this are a great way to enhance community spirit in the region as well as giving our visitors diversity of experiences while they are here."

House of Shem formed in 2005 and have been the top of the roots genre ever since. Combining reggae with Pacific and traditional Māori music, their music has a strong Kiwi flavour. Bursting onto the scene with their debut album ‘Keep Rising’ in 2008, House Of Shem rapidly built a loyal fan base. The group became the first reggae band in Aotearoa to debut at number one on the day of release with their sophomore effort ‘Island Vibration’.

The release of their third album ‘Harmony’ brought more attention to the three-piece from around the globe, touring to sold-out shows throughout the USA, Hawaii, and Australia, as well as at home. Alongside House of Shem will be Jamey Ferguson, award winning singer-songwriter and formerly of critically-acclaimed reggae band Katchafire. Playing a mix of his greatest hits and new originals that inspire him, he has teamed up with the Messent whanau and Trin on Drums and is looking forward to be playing to fans at in Waitomo.

Reggae at The Big Apple will be held on Saturday 19th October 2019 with doors open from 6pm. Fans are urged to take advantage of the early bird ticket price of $40 which runs until Saturday 5th October. Ticket prices will increase to $50 from Sunday 6th October.

For the super fans, VIP packages are also available to purchase for $100, this includes a t-shirt, branded glass and a photo with the band.
