Our First Sensory Relaxed Performance of THE SANTA CLAUS SHOW ’19 at The PumpHouse Theatre, Takpauna Auckland.

Saturday 14th December 2019 1pm ( 65 minutes long)

Tim Bray Theatre Company has been working together with Children ‘s Autusim Foundation to create a new accessible performance for families with sensory difficulties.

A sensory relaxed performance is for anyone who would benefit from a casual, supportive theatre atmosphere, which softens some technical elements and offers resource materials to create an inclusive theatre experience.

On our website you will find tools to help the theatre goer with their Sensory Relaxed Journey to the theatre.

Here they will find a welcome video to watch. They can view Frequently Asked Questions; access Performance Day Arrival Information and read the theatre house rules.

On December 2nd we will be adding a visual story guide to our web page also for you to read before coming to the performance which will have images of the actual show taken at our dress rehearsal.

The Santa Claus Show 2019 is the story of Kelly and Alana, two best friends who decide to write to Santa Claus. Kelly sends the longest list of things that a child wants for Christmas that Santa has ever seen. Santa flies Kelly to the North Pole so she can learn for herself the true meaning of Christmas.

During this sensory relaxed performance, we have not changed the plot, characters, or story from our standard performances. Instead we have done our best to adjust for sensory sensitivities and preferences while still staying true to the spirit of the play, and we provide as much information as possible so you can prepare in advance for the show you are attending.

We also have a chill out zone in our foyer which will have a tv screen showing the performance also should your child find the theatre to much. We also have a relaxed space should you child need a quiet place to setlle.

Other theatre companies have Relaxed Performances so what is the difference with our accessible performance offering?

"Relaxed Performance" has a great variety of meaning. For many theatres it means that the strict theatre ettiquette is suspended, the lights and sound are made more gentle, and free access in and out of the theatre is allowed during the show. From our research and working with Children’s Autusim Foundation , our performance adds additonal layers on top of the basic structure, by providing a visual story, welcome video, familiarisation visits, a preshow tour, open seating space, fidget toys, and more.

We are creating a multifaceted performance that blends many unique elements to create a supportive, comfortable, non-judgemental theatre experience.

We look forward to opening the doors to our Christmas Sensory Relaxed Performance.
