The amazing new album from the Neil Finn-led project 7 Worlds Collide, 'The Sun Came Out', is released today, just in time for Father's Day (September 6th). This perfect gift for hard-to-buy-for fathers is available from Goodbooks (www.goodbooksnz.co.nz), the online bookstore with a conscience, in both a single and a deluxe double version.
Eight months ago Finn brought together a group of well-known musicians to record a studio album of original songs in support of Oxfam's work. The "super duper" group included Phil Selway and Ed O'Brien from Radiohead, Johnny Marr, four members of Wilco, Bic Runga, Liam Finn, KT Tunstall, Don McGlashan and many more.
When asked about what he contributed to such a diverse pool of talent, Finn replied, "What do I bring to it? God, I don't know. Have you asked someone else?" The reply from KT Tunstall: "It's Neil. It all comes from him. He's just a big love explosion."
The result - 24 new tracks of beautiful, melodic and sometimes wild collaboration, ranging from the Jeff Tweedy/Johnny Marr track 'Too Blue', to the Bic Runga/KT Tunstall murder ballad 'Black Silk Ribbon', to Phil Selway's first foray from behind the Radiohead drum kit with the soulful singer/songwriter number 'The Ties that Bind Us'.
Oxfam's Jason Garman said, "Not only is this a supremely cool musical adventure by some of the greatest songwriters out there, it's a testament to their goodwill and compassion. Every single copy of 7 Worlds Collide sold will directly benefit vulnerable people in the developing world who are struggling to achieve the fundamental human rights that you and I take for granted.
"As a dad, I can't think of a more feel-good Father's Day gift," he added.
