Above almost everything else in life, including my much beloved films, I would say my interest in Aliens ranks number one! Not just the simple idea of Aliens either, as it also permeates into my interest in ancient history, religion, and ideas of the future. So when I had the opportunity to get my hands on a copy of season one of the History Channel series ‘Ancient Aliens’ I jumped at the chance! Not even the nine hour viewing time was enough to put me off and in fact it made me want to watch it even more as clearly it was going to be fairly in depth.

“Ancient Aliens is an American television series that premiered on April 20, 2010 on the History channel. Produced by Prometheus Entertainment, the program presents theories of ancient astronauts and proposes that historical texts, archaeology and legends contain evidence of past human-extraterrestrial contact. The series' de facto pilot was a TV special of the same name that aired on March 8, 2009.”

I’ve watched many a TV show over the years about Aliens and UFO’s and this is easily the best one I’ve ever seen. The production values were high, even if it was because they have reused a lot of CG animation from other History Channel shows like ‘The Universe’, and the subject matters were taken seriously and they also presented nicely balanced sides of both arguments, for and against the subject matters. It felt well researched, although sometimes it also felt like they only lightly touched on some subjects before moving on, but I guess that’s because they may have wanted this season to be more of an overview with later seasons focusing more on different smaller subjects. With that in mind it did tend to repeat itself a little bit over the six episodes and I must say I even got a tiny bit bored in parts, but that’s not stopping me from really looking forward to season two!

9 out of 10 from me!
