My knowledge of ‘Robot Chicken’ has been seeing small bits of the show over the years, and maybe a few full episodes, and with episodes being only 5 minutes long means it’s not hard to catch a full one. Even though I did enjoy what I was seeing, I was never inclined to go out and watch more or maybe follow it a bit closer. So, when I had the chance to review this latest Blu-ray release from the series, with their 3rd Star Wars parody, I jumped at the opportunity, even though I hadn’t seen either of the two previous ones, but thought it was a good time to give the show a proper chance.
“The Emmy Award-winning Robot Chicken returns with its third send-up of the Star Wars universe! In this all-new hour-long special, four very different characters - Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Gary the Stormtrooper - reveal untold stories that weave and interconnect throughout all six Star Wars films! Set phasers to "fun"! Oh wait, that's the wrong franchise.”
Well, I was so pleasantly surprised at how funny this show was, that I now want to not only watch the other two Star Wars specials, but also the main TV series. This was really fricken funny, and the stop motion animation is so well done that it’s hard to even comprehend that every single motion is painstakingly done by hand, one frame at a time. This was a 1 hour TV special, so 43’ish minutes, and a major step up from the main series, which is only 5 minutes long. Now, of course, this is a skit show and shorter lengths fit it better, but a part of me thought I would like to see them give a full narrative type of show or a movie a try. So, funnily enough, when watching the special features on the disc, they mentioned that’s exactly what’s in the works right now. So watch this space!
