Box Juice Launches Innovative Reggae Fusion On Marley's Birthday

Kiwi reggae band Box Juice is set to release the first single from their second album of original tunes this Waitangi Day - the birthday of legendary reggae great Bob Marley.

The new song, 'Balance', will be launched at Wellington's premier cultural event - Te Ra o te Raukura Festival - at Te Whiti Park in Waiwhetu, Lower Hutt, on Sunday February 6. The band will also perform at Creekfest 2011 in Porirua on Saturday March 12 before a nationwide tour kicks off in May.

'Sunrise Ave' is the follow-up album to the group's 2009 debut 'One Heart, Many Lives' and will showcase 10 songs in a unique fusion of roots, reggae, rock, heavy metal and soul music.

Box Juice features the musical talents of Ray Bishop (vocals and percussion), Lloyd Tongia (keyboards), Aden Ngahoe Watene (rhythm and lead guitar, backing vocals), Clint Fraser (drums), Tipene Babbington (rhythm and lead guitar, backing vocals) and Gregory Saia (bass). Musician Tere Ngaeruaiti contributed to the development of the album while Cathal McDonagh is the live sound engineer.

Ray Bishop, who also manages the band, says the aim of 'Sunrise Ave' is to inspire the people of the world to love and respect one another. "We have gone back to the reggae roots feel of the first album, incorporated rock and heavy metal elements, thrown in soul vocals with harmonies for good measure and capped it off with some original reggae war cries."

Bishop says the first single from the album "has a summer's day reggae groove with R'n'B overtones and soulful vocal harmonies the heart and soul of the song speaks of all the wonderful things in life that need to be balanced in order to find a place where you can operate at your personal best."

The new single, 'Balance', will be available on iTunes from February 6 2011.
