After touring the globe extensively for the past two years, The Brunettes return with a whirlwind national tour this week that kicks off on Wednesday with a performance at the launch gig for MySpace Music NZ, before the bands' own headline shows in Christchurch (Thursday at Al's Bar), Wellington (San Francisco Bath House on Friday), Auckland (Saturday night, the Kings Arms) and Leigh's Sawmill Caf on Sunday 8th.
Celebrating the release of new record 'Paper Dolls' last week, The Brunettes played a one-off performance at Auckland's Mt Roskill Primary School - visit Cheese on Toast HERE to see hundreds of schoolchildren performing 'B-A-B-Y' along with the band complete with actions!
Lyrically, 'Paper Dolls' combines clever call-and-response levity, an undercurrent of smoldering romance, and a penchant for idiosyncratic storytelling. All are on display in first single "Red Rollerskates", which finds Jonathan Bree and Heather Mansfield solving their relatively ordinary problem (Jonathan walks too fast for his asthmatic girlfriend) with a quirky but playful solution (buying her a pair of red rollerskates and pulling her around with a rope). Watch the brand new clip here Live, The Brunettes will be playing tracks from the new album as a fine-tuned and well travelled five piece - as well as favourites from their previous three albums. Expect your usual array of glockenspiels, keyboards, and possibly every kind of percussion - with perhaps a few extra synthesizers thrown in the mix. Joining The Brunettes on tour will be Australian pop icon Sarah Blasko who has been selling out shows across Australia as she tours her acclaimed album As Day Follows Night.
