PSY's hit Going Gangnam Style will be just another of a long list of one hit, crazy dance tune wonders!

Remember the ageing Spanish guys who sang the 1996 dance hit Hey Macarena!? You know the one where people did the dance with the hand twist and rolling back motions (or something like that). And that reminds me of Billy Ray Cyrus's hit Achey Breakey Heart from 1992. Billy Ray is now better known as Miley Cyrsus' dad. But he left me and countless others with a creeping dislike of line dancing.

Now, South Korean superstar PSY is attempting to export K (or Korean) Pop to the world. Admittedly, unlike the other abovementioned one hits, I find his song catchy and appealing. It's taken some time to grow on me but now it has. But I'm not a good dancer, so you won't find me on the floor doing the horsey dance.

However, PSY has one possible advantage that the earlier mentioned one hit dance wonders didn't - You Tube exposure. His video will remain on there (so long as it's not taken down) for eternity or, failing that, however long the site continues to exist for. I don't expect, though, that PSY will have a follow up hit in the West. After making gazillions (as Cyrus and the old Spanish dudes did back in the day) PSY will have no need to make another hit at least for Western ears. His musical appeal will likely remain confined to South Korea, Asia and the overseas Korean diaspora. I would be surprised if he charted again outside of Korea, given the history of foreign language and quirky dance one hit wonders in New Zealand and elsewhere.

That's why we should enjoy the quirky PSY while we can - as we won't hear of him again in the West!
