From Terence Winter, Emmy Award-winning writer of The Sopranos and Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese, comes BOARDWALK EMPIRE, an epic period drama set in 1920s Atlantic City at the dawn of Prohibition, when the sale of alcohol became illegal throughout the United States and organised crime was rife.

The series takes the viewer on a darkly seductive journey into the decadence and danger of Atlantic City's golden era; a mecca of glamour and excess mixed with a seedy underbelly of violence and corruption.

Based on a non-fiction book by Nelson Johnson, BOARDWALK EMPIRE chronicles the life of Enoch ''Nucky'' Johnson, played by Steve Buscemi. In a time when money, power, and liquor were ruthlessly fought over, this corrupt old world politician/crime boss struggles to maintain control of his empire in the face of rival gangsters hell bent on grabbing their share of the city's Prohibition soaked profits.

This highly anticipated 12-episode series will premiere on SKY MOVIES, SKY Channel 020, this October.

SKY Director of Entertainment Programming Travis Dunbar is thrilled to be bringing Scorcese's latest masterpiece to the channel.

"To secure such a premium programme, with phenomenal production values and creative pedigree, is an enormous coup for SKY MOVIES", he says.

"Having had the privilege of viewing the feature-length pilot at this May's L.A. screenings, I can honestly say there was uniform buzz and excitement after the premiere from all the international buyers. It is that rare combination of the epic and the personal.

This is a truly unique series with the scale of a blockbuster, yet in the classic Scorsese style. Much like The Sopranos, this show is sure to linger in the memory".

BOARDWALK EMPIRE'S behind-the-camera talent, showcasing writer Terence Winter's powerful storytelling and Martin Scorsese's directorial genius, along with Buscemi's portrayal of gangster Nucky, make this the must-see television event of the year.
