I’ll admit right off the bat! I haven’t seen all the ‘Evil Dead’ films! In fact I saw ‘Army Of Darkness’ a good 3-4 times before I even got around to seeing the original, and I have yet to see the 2nd! I know, I know! How can I call myself a film lover and critic if I haven’t seen such a classic as ‘Evil Dead 2’? Well the simple answer is that there really isn’t enough time to watch every great film ever made, but I’ll get there eventually. So clearly with ‘Army Of Darkness’ being right up there with my other favourite horror comedies, meant it was a VERY easy choice when I saw it come up on my DVD review list with a new edition being put out by Madman. So I snapped up a copy and sat back last night to be entertained and have all the great memories flood back of Bruce Campbell and his awesome one liners!

“In this sequel to the Evil Dead films, a discount-store employee is time-warped to a medieval castle beset by monstrous forces. Initially mistaken for an enemy, he is soon revealed as the prophesised savoir who can quest for the Necronomicon, a book which can dispel the evil. Unfortunately, he screws up the magic words while collecting the tome, and releases an army of skeletons, led by his own Deadite counterpart. What follows is a thrilling, yet tongue-in-cheek battle between Ash's 20th Century tactics and the minions of darkness.”

It must have been a few years since I had seen the film as I had forgotten just how many great one liners it had! Almost every time Campbell opened his mouth to say a line something genius came out of it. I just love this film, and sure massive amounts of the special effects have dated horribly, but the comedy far out weights that. I would love to see more such horror comedies made and would love to see Campbell once more play Ash, so here’s hoping that might happen at some point in the future!

9 out of 10 from me.
