DVD Review – Comics Without Boarders, Season 1

I’ve been a big fan of standup comedy since, like forever, and when I first saw Russell Peters a few years back I instantly became a big fan of his as well. So, when I saw this DVD that combined the two, with Peters hosting and a whole bunch of other comedians doing 5-10 minute bits, I knew I had to add it onto my review list and check it out. One other thing I liked about it was that I didn’t recognise a single name of the standup comedians, and getting introduced to new ones is always a bit of a buzz, as long as they are good of course.

“First there was Def Comedy Jam, then Bad Boys of Comedy, now get ready to experience the Next Wave of stand-up comedy from Comics Without Borders. Hosted by world renowned comic sensation Russell Peters, this 2-Disc set features the entire first season and is packed with today's hottest and funniest comedians from around the world. With over 5 hours of uncensored stand-up, Comics Without Borders takes free speech to its very limits and keeps you in stitches from start to finish. This is the reason we have the First Amendment, so you have the right to laugh your &^#%* off!”

Well, Russell Peters was a good host, though a lot of his planned jokes were taken from his own previous work, but this left his free flowing random comments actually the most funny as he played with the audience. As for the other comedians, every single one was good. Some even bordered on really good; not a single one was bad or even below average, which was great to see. So for any standup comedy fans out there I highly recommend this DVD!

8 out of 10 from me.

I also have a copy of this to give away to a New Zealand reader, so send me an e-mail to with your contact details and I’ll put you into the draw!
