DVD Review – The Illusionist

When seeing an animated film that was up for an Academy Award, you would most likely think it would either be from a major Hollywood studio or from one of the amazing Japanese animation houses. But with two French animated films in recent years getting this nomination, means they must be doing something right over there at the moment!

Well, 'The Illusionist' was an...interesting film. Its sensibilities often felt more Japanese than they did French, but it also had a dark underlining theme that felt very European. One interesting thing about it was it's pretty much a silent film as all the characters spoke gibberish, which kind of made it feel like a film full of Sims characters talking to each other. So though I did...'enjoy' it, I'm not exactly left overwhelmed by it, especially considering the main female character was fricken annoying!
