DVD Review – Kevin Hart, I’m A Grown Little Man

I’m a big stand-up comedian fan and often when I hear comedians talk about other comedians that I haven’t heard of, I normally check them out pretty quickly. This is something that happened with Kevin Hart, as I’ve often heard his name bandied around on film commentaries, on TV shows, and during interviews with other comedians, but for some reason I didn’t take that as a cue to grab his stuff and check it out. I think the main reason was I thought he was actually another comedian who I thought was pretty average. So, when I had a chance to review one of his DVD’s, I realised when looking at the cover, that though they look similar, they are actually different people, and that’s all I needed to know to tick that film on the review list and wait for it to turn up.

“Kevin Hart has done several stand-up TV specials for Comedy Central, including I'm a Grown Little Man (2009) and Seriously Funny (2010). In 2010, Hart appeared in Air Jordan commercials alongside Dwyane Wade. Hart also appears frequently as a "roundtable" guest on the late night E! talk show Chelsea Lately. On June 26, 2011 he hosted the 2011 BET Awards. His new stand up "Laugh at My Pain" is scheduled for a theatrical release September 9th at AMC theaters.”

Well, I’ll be honest, that though he was pretty good and pretty consistently funny, he isn’t to the level of other great comedians that I love. But, I’ll also say, that this is Hart’s first live show and I’ve seen some first live shows of the guys I really like and they weren’t as good as they are now in this first show. So, this was good enough to make me want to check out both his 2010 and 2011 live shows, and I have a feeling they will be even better as I’m still hearing his name pop up along with the other best current live stand up guys on the circuit.

8 out of 10 from me.
