Like I’ve said in previous reviews, I’ve been seeing a lot of History and Discovery channel shows of late and I’ve loved it! Though this month the options were a little different and ‘Mobsters’ season 1 wasn’t exactly up my ally of interest, but I thought it could be a good watch. So when it turned up in the mail, with my other review DVDs, I was a little dejected to see that it was nearly 10 hours of show to watch! Because I review lots of DVDs and films at the cinema, I knew this particular show was going to take a up a decent chunk of my week and I just hoped like hell it was going to be half decent, as watching 10 hours of crap would be a killer! I even started watching the show a day early, and 8 full days later I finally got through it all, and now I can get to the task of breaking down those 10 hours into a 300ish word review.
Being a film lover, I have seen a decent number of mob films in the past, and one very cool thing about this show was seeing some of those stories being told for real, and they were clearly used as the inspiration for some of the mobster films. Though after seeing all 13 episodes, one thing was very clear, and that is a mobsters life tends to run the same course, no matter what area of the USA or what era they lived in.
Rise from the bottom to the top, make a lot of money and either die horribly or get put away for the rest of your days. A couple died of natural causes before anything horrible happened to them, but you can’t help but feel the stress they put themselves under while living as a mobster more than likely brought a premature end to their lives anyway. So the show was pretty cool, and very informative, and I’m sure would be a good thing for any budding criminals to watch as I’d say it would put you off knowing that 9 out of 10 bad guys get it in the end.
7.5 out of 10 from me.
