When you think of French cinema, or European cinema for that matter, you don’t exactly think of action films as their forte. So when perusing this month’s DVDs to review, I came across this French film ‘Point Blank’ that seemed to be their take of an American style action film. Being a fan of action cinema, and foreign cinema, I decided to give it a try and see if they could pull off something they don’t usual do.
“Samuel Pierret (Gilles Lellouche) is a nurse who saves the wrong guy -- a thief (Roschdy Zem) whose henchmen take Samuel's pregnant wife (Elena Anaya) hostage to force him to spring their boss from the hospital. A race through the subways and streets of Paris ensues, and the body count rises. Can Samuel evade the cops and the criminal underground and deliver his beloved to safety?”
'Point Blank' was a damn good action thriller, though it was lite on the action. It's always cool seeing such films coming out of countries other than the USA and Asia, as those guys are the kings of action thrillers. But this film does stand up to its more experienced counterparts and I really enjoyed it! Let’s hope we see more like this in the future!
