I love me a bit of Hong Kong cinema, but like with any country that makes films, they have hits and misses just like the rest. So when deciding to check out one of their films, it’s bound to be a bit of a lottery sometimes.
“Grocery store clerk Kit's world is shaken to the core after his girlfriend Wing is brutally raped by the police. Kit then seeks out revenge.”
'Revenge: A Love Story' was just a nasty and vicious film, and reminds me a lot of another Hong Kong film, 'One Nite In Mongkok', which was equally sad and depressing. If you're going to do films like that, at least be clever about it, or have a decent message. Because with both those films, I can't figure out what message we should take from them, or as a storyteller, what message they were even trying to get across. Nonsensical story elements and character motivations didn't help the matter either. Ohh well, straight to the sell pile for this one.
