I’m a pretty big fan of Russell Peters and have been since I first saw him years ago. Though if I ever try and figure out where I first saw him I hit a brick wall. Was it on TV, one of his stand up DVD’s or a YouTube clip? Either way I liked his stuff right off the bat, and he wasn’t just good, he was fricken awesome! So since then I have seen a lot of his stuff, and when I had the chance to check out one of his new stand up DVD’s, I was pretty keen to give it a watch.

“Russell Peters' stand-up performances are mostly made up of observational comedy where he uses humour to poke fun at the subjects of race, class and culture, often using his own life experiences as well as impersonations of different cultural accents to illustrate his act. Russell Peters uses his minority status to allow him to poke fun at different races in his performance, but according to an interview done for The National, he does not intend to put down or offend different races and cultures, but instead tries to raise them up through humour.”

So this might not have been his best stand up he’s every done, but still ends up being better than most other stand ups currently out there peddling their wares. He sticks to his tried and true formula of comedy based around racial stereotypes and the like but as ever he gets it right on the money. Even when I don’t fully get the racial links he’s mentioning, I can still find the humour in it from the fact, one he’s funny how he delivers the lines, and two the audience almost always gets them for me. So yes this won’t go down as even one of his top 3 stand up routines, but it’s still very much worth a look.
