DVD Review – The Universe, Season 5

I’m a big fan of science and technology, even though I’m not smart enough to understand how it all works, but that doesn’t stop me from trying to work it out in my own way. So when I get a chance to check out a new TV series, article on the net or even an interesting YouTube video, I jump at the chance, as it’s so cool seeing the advances we are making every year. Because I’ve been reviewing for Magna Home Entertainment for a couple years now, I’ve had the chance to check out a few of the seasons of ‘The Universe’, and when season 5 came up on my review list, the nerd in me jumped for joy! So of course that meant it was a no-brainer that I would tick it as one of the DVD’s to review this month, and when it turned up, I sat down with a big smile, and got ready to soak up a lot of new science information about the universe.

“This educational show explores many scientific questions and topics about the universe (Big Bang, the Sun, the 9 planets, cosmic holes, other galaxies, astrobiology etc.) through latest CGI, data and interviews with scientists.”

Well episode one didn’t get off to the best start as it kind of felt like it was re-telling information I had heard and read many times before. But as the series progressed it got stuck into some new subjects, or at the very least subjects that have had some new discoveries since the last season. So I quickly fell back into my comfortable learning mode and soaked up every minute of it. Sure most of it won’t stick in the old brain, but I’m sure at some point in the future, when talking about space, I’ll be able to rip out some gem of a quote and surprise my fellow conversationalists.

9 out of 10 from me.

I also have a copy of this to give away to a lucky reader, so flick me an e-mail at to go in the draw!
