DVD Review: The Avengers - Season 1

Previously I did a review on The Avengers: Thor’s Last Stand and loved it.  So when I was given an opportunity to watch the rest of season 1, I couldn’t resist saying yes.  It didn’t disappoint me either as I loved every second of season 1.  With the same awesome theme song and great personalities I mentioned previously, I would definitely say the season is better as a whole, rather than the standalone quarters it is broken into.  The reason for this is you get a back story for each character, taking clips from the previous mini-series without it feeling like episode-filling back-flash montages.  This helped me to better identify with each hero, which we all know is very important in storytelling.  Iron Man was still my favourite Avenger, with Panther coming in a close second (why wasn’t he in the movie?).

You also get the wider season 1 picture, as opposed to coming into the plot towards the end like I did with Thor’s Last Stand.  You (not the Avengers though) quickly learn Loki’s behind everything (almost) with a master plan disguised by failed attempts and other independent take over the world attempts.  Each episode was well written and felt like they could have been standalone stories.  Add the fact that there was a good, continuous master plot taking place at the same time, The Avengers brings epicness to the series.  The Avengers is a superb animated series I just couldn’t stop watching.  Seriously, it’s SO addictive.  9/10 from me.
