Finding Nemo

13th May 2009 - I’ve loved Pixar, an animation film company, since I first saw ‘A Bug’s Life’ back in 1998 and have made a point of getting out to the cinema as each of their new films have come out.

Over the years I’ve ranked the Pixar films in my head from ‘best to worst’ - well not ‘to worst’ - more like ‘best to not quite as good as best’, as every film they make is great. Of the 9 films Pixar have made so far, however, I’ve always ranked ‘Finding Nemo’ as the 2nd ‘not quite as good as best’ film on the list. So, when I decided to watch it again the other night I was surprised at how much I loved it! Maybe I need to go back to that list in my head and change the film rankings around. Then again maybe its best to just say every film they make is great and not rank them at all!

‘Finding Nemo’ follows the story of Marlin, a clown fish, who has lost his wife and nearly all his little baby eggs, with the exception of one, to the dangers of the ocean. Fast forward a few years and that little egg has grown into little Nemo who is getting ready for his first day of fish school. With the memory of losing his wife and all his other kids still fresh in his mind, Marlin finds it hard to let his son go, and his worst fears are realised when Nemo is captured by a diver and taken far away and put into a fish bowl with other tropical fish. This leads Marlin on a long journey through the ocean to try and find his son and he’s joined by Dory, a companion he finds along the way.

‘Finding Nemo’ is by far Pixar’s biggest success when it comes to box office receipts; over $800 million in world wide takings. Seeing it again for the first time in years I can now understand why. I loved this film and think it’s one that everyone should see. From my point of view Pixar is a company that can do no wrong!

8.5 out of 10 from me.
