Heckler

I’m a fan of stand up comedy, usually preferring to watch it from the comfort of my own home unless I know the comedians are going to be amazing, like a Chris Rock or Russell Peters, who I’m sure would rock seeing live. But no matter what live performance I go to, other than music, I still always have this cringe feeling inside that the person on stage, be it an actor or comedian, is going to be bad. If you see someone bomb at home on your own TV you can always just shut off the box, unlike live where you have to stay glued to your seat. So when it comes to people who heckle performers, I can understand where they are coming from, to a point, but generally they just make the performance worse or make themselves look bad by yelling something out. But no matter where you go hecklers exist, so this documentary based on them was going to make for interesting viewing.

“HECKLER is a comedic feature documentary exploring the increasingly critical world we live in. After starring in a film that was critically bashed, Jamie Kennedy takes on hecklers and critics and asks some interesting questions of people such as George Lucas, Bill Maher, Mike Ditka, Rob Zombie, Howie Mandel and many more. This fast moving, hilarious documentary pulls no punches as you see an uncensored look at just how nasty and mean the fight is between those in the spotlight and those in the dark.”

The first part of this documentary was very funny as dozens of comics were interviewed and asked their thoughts on hecklers as well as their best, or worst, experiences with them. Then during the second and third part it got a lot more serious and really got into deeper issues. It even had a big section on reviewers, which being one myself, made for interesting viewing. I think a lot of people could get something out of this film and not just performers, as it really does delve into the world of the ‘watcher’ and how often it’s their own inner feelings of inadequacies that causes them to voice out negatively either in person or over the net with reviews or blogs.

8 out of 10 from me.
