Katt Williams, Pimp Chronicles Pt 1

I was first introduced to the comedian Katt Williams in the strangest of ways. While playing the hugely successful computer game ‘Grand Theft Auto 4’ you could take your character to different places in the game city including a comedy club. One day you might go and you’ll see a stand up routine of a computer animated Ricky Gervais or another day Katt Williams. I had heard of Gervais for sure but it was the first time I had ever seen anything of Katt Williams and I must say even though it was an animated version of his routine I was still very impressed. So when I had a chance to review one of his stand up DVDs’ I jumped at the chance.

“Williams started being a stand up comedian most notably appearing on BET Comic View. His jokes and punchlines instantly made him a show favourite. He has also played supporting characters in movies such as "First Sunday", "Norbit", and probably more widely recognized for his character in the movie "Friday After Next" as "Money Mike". He has also provided numerous skits and video appearances for artists such as The Game, Ludacris, T.I., E-40, Outkast, Lil’ Kim, Lyfe Jennings, Cyrano Williams, Nick Cannon, DJ Drama, Lil' Scrappy, Lil Jon, and others. He was a cast member on Wild 'n Out for several seasons. He also voices "A Pimp Named Slickback" on the Adult Swim's "The Boondocks". He has rapped under the "Money Mike" name for songs by artists like The Game, Baby Bash, and Suga Free.”

One thing that quickly becomes apparent with Katt Williams is that he’s very much a comedian for the black community with many of his jokes being very culturally specific. Another thing that becomes apparent is that he uses the words f**k and mother f****r every few words, to the delight of the crowd. This was a very solid routine but I did find some of the jokes didn’t really work for me like they did for the crowd, which of course was the cultural difference. But despite that it was a good watch and I’m keen to check out his other work.

7.5 out of 10 from me.
