Rejoice all Entourage fans! The loveable quartet, and Ari, will be back with the team currently filming the sixth series of the incredibly popular HBO series. There is more to the comedy than the thrill we get from living vicariously through these characters and their remarkable lifestyle. Scratch beneath the surface and you’ll find a show with all the hallmarks of great drama.

The popular assumption of Entourage is that it is a behind the scenes tour to how the rich and famous, and their hangers on, live the dream of fame, money and all the perks and the show panders to this with its glitzy locations and racy storylines.

But it’s more than that. The witty writing adds much depth and gives an interesting perspective to how Hollywood works.

To truly appreciate the characters and plots you need to have watched from the pilot as, like the great dramas on fellow HBO shows The Sopranos and Six Feet Under, there is much in the way of ongoing character development and cross references across the seasons.

In the main protagonists you have the perfect ingredients for a great show.

Vince, the Hollywood star whose career peeks and troughs we follow to his entourage that is led by Eric, or E as he is more affectionately known, his manager, closest friend and the most driven of the quartet.

Johnny Drama is the flawed one, hanging onto the shreds of former success and the fame of his brother Vince while Turtle is the one we would most commonly associate with the entourage lifestyle, sitting back and enjoying the perks of being in the ‘in’ crowd.

And then there is Ari Gold, the foul mouthed, badly behaved agent to Vince who, in many people’s eyes, makes Entourage.

Jeremy Pevin has made the character so much more than a fringe part that Ari appeared to be in the pilot and he plays a crucial part in the career fortunes of Vince and thus the fortunes of the entourage.

They make Entourage what it is, more than just a great comedy but also compulsive viewing.
