Family Fun Day to be held at Hamilton Zoo

The spotlight will be on Hamilton Zoo's Sumatran tiger siblings during the facility's Family Fun Day this Sunday, 11 March.

Running from 11am-1pm, the Family Fun Day will have a 'Once upon a Zoo Time - A Tiger's Tale' theme and will centre around Hamilton Zoo's tigers Mencari and Jaka, as well as the zoo's association with the 21st Century Tiger conservation programme.

Entertainment will include Captain Jelly and jungleman Simon, and a 'Once Upon a Zoo Time' story adventure where Molly, the zookeeper, will take attendees on an adventure to Sumatra with Mencari and Jaka.

The event will also feature stilt-walkers, face painting, games, free Tip Top ice blocks, prize giveaways and the chance for two lucky patrons to win a year's free entry to Hamilton Zoo.

Hamilton Zoo Director Stephen Standley said the Family Fun Day is a great chance for families to spend quality time together in a unique setting, while also highlighting the important role that zoos play in animal conservation.

"With this year's Family Fun Day focusing on tigers, it is a perfect opportunity to highlight the hard work that is going on to help protect tigers in the wild through 21st Century Tiger, which is one of the organisations that the Hamilton Zoo Conservation Fund supports," he said.

"Having our own Sumatran tigers at Hamilton Zoo means we feel strongly about this cause and hope in future that we can house more of these animals and establish our own breeding group here to help contribute to the ongoing survival of this amazing species."

Other projects supported by the Hamilton Zoo Conservation Fund include Jane Goodall Uganda Paper Beads, Kea Conservation Trust and Project Echo.
